About Dose

A teacher's dream, and the community it became.

Our Story

Our founder, Emily Coules, started teaching yoga in Raleigh in 2013. She spent years in the front of the room, and years building studios alongside others, before dreaming up a place she could shape from the ground up, down to its heart and the people she'd choose to build it with. That dream became Dose, and we opened our doors right after COVID, when so many of us were craving connection again.

What started as a hot yoga studio, with a star ceiling and smoothie bar, has grown into something much bigger. We lead retreats around the world each year and train the next generation of teachers through our 200 and 300 hour programs. Our mentorships and panel discussions keep the conversation going long after graduation, while the contrast therapy lounge and the Womb Room give our community somewhere to slow down and restore.

No two Dose locations look the same, because no two communities do. Each one is shaped by the teachers and team members who make it feel like home.

The world asks a lot of us. Dose is where you get to set it down for a while, surrounded by people who understand, and find your way back home to yourself.

What is the best trip you have ever taken?

Bali, Indonesia. I went for our Dose yoga retreat and brought my husband Brian and my daughter Quinn. We extended the trip to visit Uluwatu and Singapore. Uluwatu has my heart forever.

What is on your nightstand right now?

Magnesium water, Summer Fridays butter balm, herbs from my acupuncturist, Yesteryear, and if we are being honest, yesterday's chewed gum.

What is a small thing that makes you unreasonably happy?

Tied between the first five seconds getting into a hot tub and when the opening song comes on for a SATC episode.

What is a hill you will die on?

The window seat is the only seat.

What does a perfect Sunday look like?

Somewhere out of town. A slow morning, a walk to a playground and coffee with the fam, late checkout, then rolling home rested for the week.

Hot room, Womb Room, sauna, or cold plunge. Pick one.

Womb Room. I built the whole brand around movement but this room taught me the power of stillness.

What is something about Dose that nobody notices but you?

How much of the magic is the team. People think they love the heat or the star ceiling, but what they are actually feeling is a front desk that learned their name and a teacher who noticed they were back after two weeks away. I'm so grateful for every single soul who makes Dose what it is.

Finish this sentence. Dose is the place where...

Dose is the place where the class is just the beginning.

What is the best trip you have ever taken?

A group trip with my best friends to Puerto Vallarta. Renting a house together, huge group dinners, pool parties, long nights out dancing. Or Turks and Caicos for the completely opposite vibe. Relaxing on the beach for days with zero plans.

What is on your nightstand right now?

Glass of water always, a book I've tried to read 500 times, and a book of art from a favorite artist of mine.

What is a small thing that makes you unreasonably happy?

Fresh flowers. I always have them in the house.

What is a hill you will die on?

What does a perfect Sunday look like?

Going to get breakfast and coffee with my boyfriend and our dog. Walk around the park a bit. Maybe pop into a few vintage stores and then head to a late brunch with friends. Then go to our neighborhood bar for a couple of margaritas. Grab pizza on the way home and watch a movie.

Hot room, Womb Room, sauna, or cold plunge. Pick one.

Sound journey in the womb room. Sauna, warm tub, repeat.

What is something about Dose that nobody notices but you?

Probably how all the tiles line up perfectly on the check in desk, that the lights are dimmed to a perfect low level, or that the plants are the appropriate height and fullness. It's a blessing and a curse lol.

Finish this sentence. Dose is the place where...

everything is intentional. From the classes and teachers to the physical space design and branding, each moment is thoughtful. A lot of time and love have been poured into Dose.

What is the best trip you have ever taken?

I spent two weeks in Portugal this summer. I got to lead yoga abroad in the most beautiful space, then spent the days after exploring the Algarve and Lisbon. It was the rare trip where the work and the wandering both felt like a gift.

What is on your nightstand right now?

A book, a water bottle, a hair clip, and a spray bottle to discipline my cats during their 3am zoomies.

What is a small thing that makes you unreasonably happy?

Getting a roll of film back and realizing the photos are weeks, sometimes months old. It's like reliving a moment I'd half forgotten.

What is a hill you will die on?

Spotify is better than Apple Music.

What does a perfect Sunday look like?

Sleeping in, then a homemade latte with the windows open and a record on. I usually like to walk to Isaac's bagels for an end-of-week treat, then journal while doing the slowest yoga of my week, followed by a little cleaning reset. A good movie with a more complex dinner and baking cookies close it out.

Hot room, Womb Room, sauna, or cold plunge. Pick one.

Hot room, I love a good sweat.

What is something about Dose that nobody notices but you?

Since I'm here throughout the day, I get to see the light change. It floods in bright when we open, then softens as the sun climbs over the building, and by late morning it's a completely different room. I'll never forget the first day we opened, I took the 6am class and got to see the light gradually creep in through our windows.

Finish this sentence. Dose is the place where...

Dose is the place where slowing down feels like a treat, not a task. I can literally feel the tension leave my body when I step into any of the practice rooms.
